Google Analytics 4 Setup and the Core Reports You Should Read

You can't market well without knowing your visitors. Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the most powerful free tool showing how many people visit, from where and which pages they view.

1. GA4 Account & Measurement ID

Create an account and property at analytics.google.com. When you add a web stream you get a Measurement ID starting with G- — the key that connects your site to Analytics.

2. Adding the Tag

Add the ID to every page of your site — either directly in the code or with a tool like Cloudflare Zaraz (no file editing). Once added, you'll see yourself in the Realtime report.

3. Core Reports

  • Realtime: who is on the site right now.
  • Acquisition: where visitors come from — Google, Instagram, direct?
  • Engagement: most-viewed pages and time spent.
  • Demographics: city/country and device.

Watch Out: Ad Blockers

Some visitors use ad/tracker blockers that stop data before it reaches Google, so GA4 numbers can run slightly low. Pairing it with server-side Cloudflare Web Analytics gives a fuller picture.

Bottom line: set up GA4, verify with Realtime, then check Acquisition and Engagement weekly. Decide with data, not guesses.
